The International Maritime organization(IMO) approved the International convention on Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) in 1979. Which entered into force in 1985. Bangladesh Govt. has vested this responsibility to Bangladesh navy on 15 Oct 2015 and the MRCC is situated in Bangladesh Naval Headquarters, Dhaka. MRCC Dhaka is particularly responsible for the Bay of Bengal region and coastal areas of Bangladesh. It ensures the safety and security of vessels, coordinate search and rescue operation for people, vessels or aircrafts in distress at sea and exchange information before worldwide MRCC.
