Anti-piracy operations are constabulary application of military forces involving exercise of universal jurisdiction on the high seas. Within territorial seas, coastal states enjoy such jurisdiction. In our coastal area piracy is widespread and pirates are equipped with modern weapons and craft. The task associated with anti-piracy operation demands robust sea control measures. The other principal form of criminal law enforcement task that involves maritime force is drug interdiction. BN spend a substantial proportion of its time on-station involved in law enforcement tasks. These include interception of illegal immigrants and counter-contraband operations mounted to combat smuggling of a wide range of illicit goods, including weapons and explosives. BN also conducts operations to counter gun-running as a part of a wider counter insurgency operations.
Fishery protection is one of the roles of BN and continues to be an important activity in an era of extending jurisdiction and increasing exploitation of and stress on fish stocks in both coastal and oceanic waters. BN has been involved in this task since her inception.Operation Mother Hilsha Protection is one of the important operations now a days conducted by BN. Besides, BN ships regularly monitor the fishing boats operating both at coastal waters & high seas and ensure that the fishing boats are maintaining the rules & regulation of the standard fishing.
