Women in Navy
Bangladesh Navy has initiated outstanding efforts in the case of gender equality and women empowerment. It is worth mentioning that BN was the pioneer in inducting female officers in 2000. BN also started recruiting female sailors in the service since 2016. Female officers and sailors of BN are performing their duties beside their male colleagues comfortably in every base, ship and installation. Moreover, they also participate in United Nations peacekeeping missions in various countries.

BN conducts regular patrols in the Bay of Bengal to monitor maritime activities, ensuring compliance with national laws. This includes surveillance of the territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) to prevent illegal fishing, smuggling, piracy, and other illegal activities.

The Bangladesh Navy consistently extends critical support to civil authorities, demonstrating its vital role beyond traditional defence. This deployment in aid to civil power is multifaceted, ranging from providing essential relief and conducting rescue operations during catastrophic floods and cyclones to ensuring public order and security in major national events. Furthermore, naval personnel and vessels are instrumental in distributing humanitarian aid to remote coastal and riverine communities, often inaccessible by road. The navy also deploys medical teams where healthcare is scare due to limited accessibility. This seamless civil-military integration underscores the navy's commitment to national resilience and the welfare of Bangladesh's citizens.

Naval Diplomacy
A 'man of war' (warship) is seen as national visibility at sea. Historically, navies have been regarded as a symbol of national sovereignly power and an instrument of foreign policy. The Navy serves as a diplomatic element in overcoming conflicting situations and/or building strategic alliances. The BN started its first flag-showing mission in 1976 when three Large Patrol Crafts visited Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. The goodwill visits are now conducted regularly. On the other hand, it first received a counterpart when a French Navy ship visited Chattogram in 1975. Until now, over 140 ships from different friendly nations have paid goodwill visits to Bangladesh.
