BNS SHER-E-BANGLA is a major training and logistics support base of Bangladesh Navy which is located in the south-middle port city of Patuakhali. This largest naval base of Bangladesh Navy stands on 194.45 acres of land near the bank of Andermanik River and adjacent to Rabnabad channel.
She was commissioned on 12 July 2023. This base administers operational training as per laid down policy with a view to producing skilled manpower and provide protection of maritime and coastal area from enemy intrusion, air support to Payra port, Payra Coal Plant and adjacent fastest growing industrial areas, defence against external, traditional and non-traditional threats. Under non-traditional role, this base is preventing smuggling, piracy, drug & human trafficking, protecting fishery resources, carrying out search & rescue operation after natural disaster and conducting jatka operations etc. It will provide air support for protection of commercial shipping to and pro Payra port while maintaining surveillance of this area using surface craft and air assets. Like other bases, this establishment has deployed naval contingent in support to aid to civil power.
New Entry Training School namely NETS has been shifted to BNS SEB in June 2023 for improvising training facilities to the newly recruited sailors. New Entry Training School (NETS) is the basic training institution of Bangladesh Navy. This institution was established in 1977 at BNS TITUMIR under Commander Khulna Naval Area. With the development of BNS SHER-E-BANGLA, the New Entry Training School has been shifted to the modern training infrastructure and facilities of the base. NETS is the only institution of Bangladesh Navy where the New Entry Sailors are transformed from civilian to military through Boot Camp Training. More than a thousand newly recruited sailors receive training and pass out every year from this institution. In every year, two batches of Newly Recruited Sailors are trained here. The first Batch of every year joins by 01 January and the second Batch joins by 01 July. The training course has been designed as for the duration of 22 weeks.
