In post liberation period, Bangladesh Navy began its forward march through the induction of new ships and commissioning of three naval bases including BNS ISSA KHAN. Bangladesh Naval Academy (BNA) started its journey in July 1976, in the premises of Marine Academy, Juldia. The functioning of BNA continued inside BNS ISSA KHAN. It was shifted to BNS ISSA KHAN on 07 March 1977. On 02 June 1988, BNA started functioning independently at the present scenic premises on the confluence of the River Karnaphuly at Patenga With a firm desire to establish a training academy of international standard, the Training Complex with all modern facilities come into being by its inauguration on 21 March 2018. Now this academy can accommodate an increased number of local and foreign cadets, ensuring a high standard of training.
