Commodore Faiz, (C), NGP, ndc, psc, BN, was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Bangladesh Navy on July 1, 1995. Currently serving as Commander Flotilla West since February 4, 2025, he has distinguished himself through a career marked by exemplary leadership and strategic acumen.
Professionally accomplished, Commodore Faiz is an alumnus of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) in Mirpur and the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, India. He specializes in Communication and Electronic Warfare and received the "Best in Merit Trophy" for his achievements during his training in India. Additionally, he attended prestigious courses such as the International Maritime Officers Course in the USA, Overseas Directing Staff course in the UK, Defence Planning Course in Turkey and National Defence College Course in India.
Commodore Faiz has demonstrated worthiness in command capabilities by leading diverse naval vessels at sea including CGS PABNA (Coastal Patrol Craft), BNS DURVEDYA (Fast Attack Craft Missile), BNS SURMA (Patrol Craft), BNS MADHUMATI (Large Patrol Craft), and BNS OSMAN (Guided Missile Frigate). On shore, he commanded the School of Maritime Warfare and Tactics (SMWT) and the Training Base BNS SHAHEED MOAZZAM. His contributions extend to editing a seminal book titled "Naval Warfare Primer" for young naval officers. In staff roles within Naval Headquarters, he served as Staff Officer (Operations & Plans) and later as Director Welfare. He also held positions as Directing Staff and later as Senior Instructor at DSCSC Mirpur. He contributed in UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) as a Military Observer. He played pivotal roles organizing significant maritime events like 'International Fleet Review 2022' while serving as Chief Staff Officer to Commander Chattogram Naval Area. His expertise includes planning large-scale naval exercises; notably participating as a lead planner at SEACAT 2017 in Singapore. In academic circles, he presented papers on collective maritime strategies during symposia like Goa Maritime Symposium 2022. For rendering glorious service at sea, he earned the Peacetime Medal: Nou Gourab Padak (NGP).
Academically inclined, Commodore Faiz holds an M.Sc. in Defence Studies from Bangladesh University of Professionals, an M.Sc. in Strategic Studies from Madras University and an MBA in Strategic Leadership & Public Policy from IIT Madras. He received a Book Prize for his outstanding dissertation on ‘Blue Prosperity’ during his MBA studies.
Commodore Faiz is married to Asma Faiz Shuravi who chairs BN Ladies Club Khulna. They are proud and thrilled parents of two children pursuing higher education at MIST: Faiq in Aeronautical Engineering and Faiza in Architecture.
