Bangladesh Navy Hydrographic Department was established with the noble objective of ensuring safe navigation in Bangladesh waters. The main aim of this department is to render navigational support to the worldwide maritime community for safe navigation in the region of the Bay of Bengal. The department has a well-established organizational setup and is highly capable of conducting modern hydrographic surveys and producing paper charts and Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs). The department possesses a good number of modern hydrographic survey ships and boats, a hub of hydrographic, oceanographic and cartographic works namely Bangladesh Navy Hydrographic & Oceanographic Centre (BNHOC), an international training establishment namely BN Hydrographic School.
Bangladesh Navy Hydrographic Department conducts hydrographic surveys in strict compliance with the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) standards to ensure safe navigation in Bangladesh's coastal and maritime areas. The department is capable of producing IHO standard nautical charts and Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC) and encrypting ENCs of Bangladesh water area. It supports naval operations, maritime trade, and resource exploration by providing accurate and up-to-date hydrographic data. The department also plays a key role in the protection of Bangladesh's marine resources, disaster management, environmental protection and search and rescue operations. By providing essential hydrographic information, it contributes to the sustainable development of the National Blue Economy initiatives.
